Back To School

And just like that, school bells are ringing and buses are back on their routes. Back to school can mean hectic mornings, but it does not have to. Every family has their own morning routine but these ideas may help make your family’s routine less chaotic.

A Good Night’s Sleep

It can be difficult making the transition from staying up late on those long summer days to hopping into bed early, but the earlier kids go to bed, the more prepared they will be for their long school day ahead.

Nighttime Routine

Having an established, consistent nighttime routine (choosing their clothes, taking a bath, brushing teeth, getting pajamas on) helps to settle down after a long day. It can also help to talk to them about the plan for the next day, are there plans for after school? Sporting events? Appointments? Finally, kiss them goodnight and turn out the lights!

Morning Routine

It is a good idea to give kids some responsibility when it comes to waking up on time. Getting children an alarm clock is a nice way to do this, though it doesn't mean you will not have to nudge them to get out of bed or remind them to get dressed and prepared for the day. It may also be helpful to have a list (pictures for younger kids, written list for older kids) of everything your child needs to do each morning. You can see some samples HERE. You can put these around the house to ensure everyone stays on track.

Don’t Forget To Eat

Breakfast is important as it gives us energy and helps us focus after a night of not eating. If your mornings are hectic it can be difficult fitting a full breakfast into the schedule. Finding foods that can be eaten on the go but still provide necessary nutrients can eliminate some of the stress while still providing your body with the nutrients it needs. NEED SOME IDEAS?

That back to school transition from summer doesn’t have to be a headache. Having a routine in place can help to stay organized and prepare you for the day ahead. Hopefully these helpful tips can get your family running smoothly in the morning.
